Saptha Sthana Temples of Kanjanur:

The Saptha Sthana Temples of Kanjanur are;

1.    Agneeswarar Temple, Kanjanur

2.    Thirukoteeswarar Temple, Thirukodikaval

3.    Vadaranyeswarar Temple, Thiruvalangadu 

4.    Abathsahayeswarar Temple, Aduthurai

5.    Gomuktheeswarar Temple, Thiruvavaduthurai

6.    Prananadeswarar Temple, Thirumangalakudi

7.    Akshayanatha Swamy Temple, Thirumandurai

Kurangaduthurai:

There are two places on the banks of Cauvery River by the name of Kurangaduthurai. Lord Shiva is said to have been worshipped by two monkeys (Kurangu in Tamil) from Ramayana namely Sugriva and Vaali. This place is called as Then Kurangaduthurai as it is located on the southern side of the river Cauvery. Sugriva worshiped Lord Shiva here. The other Kurangaduthurai is called as Vada Kurangaduthurai as it is located on the northern side of the river Cauvery and Vaali is said to have worshiped Lord Shiva in Vada Kurangaduthurai.

Paadal Petra Sthalams:

The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Devaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the Nayanmars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. This Temple is the 148^th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 31^st Sthalam on south side of Cauvery River in Chozha Nadu. Thirugnana Sambandar and Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. 

Thirupugazh Sthalam:

Saint Arunagirinathar has sang songs in praise of Lord Murugan of this temple in his revered Thirupugazh. Hence, the temple is considered as Thirupugazh Sthalam.
