Bhoologanathar Temple, Nellikkuppam, Cuddalore
Bhoologanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Nellikkuppam Town in Panruti Taluk in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Bhoologanathar and Mother is called as Bhuvanambigai. This Temple houses a special shrine for Lord Vishnu like Govinda Raja Perumal Temple in Chidambaram Thillai Nataraja Temple.



There are three temples in the area around Nellikkuppam that denote Kailasa, Shivaloka and Bhooloka, the three places where Lord Shiva is worshipped. They are;

History
The Temple is believed to be built by Chola Emperor Rajendra Chola I. The Temple was renovated by Vaiyapuri Paradesiyar in 18th Century A.D.


The Temple
This Temple is facing towards east with three tiered Rajagopuram. Nandi, Balipeedam and Dhwaja Sthambam can be found facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Maha Mandapam, Artha Mandapam and Sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Bhoologanathar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Bhuvanambigai. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated in Maha Mandapam.


There is a south facing shrine housing Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal and Alarmelu Mangai in Maha Mandapam. There is a shrine for Vishnu Durga in the Temple premises. She is sitting over Padma (Lotus) with 8 arms (Ashta Bhuja) is special. There are shrines for Swarna Vinayagar, Muthu Kumara Swamy with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Kala Bhairavar, Chandikeswarar, Bala Murugan, Dakshinamoorthy and Navagrahas in the Temple premises. Sthala Vriksham is Vilwa tree.


Temple Opening Time
The Temple remains open from 08.00 AM to 12.00 Noon and 04.00 PM to 08.00 PM.
Festivals
Ani Thirumanjanam, Aadi Thirukalyanam (Marriage Festival), Puratasi Maha Shivaratri and monthly Pradoshams are celebrated here.
Prayers
People worship to Lord Shiva for settling land disputes, buying properties and wellbeing of them. Women worship Mother to overcome marriage obstacles and pray for longevity of their husband.

The Temple is located at about 1.5 Kms from Nellikkuppam Main Bus Stand, 2 Kms from Nellikkuppam Railway Station, 11 Kms from Cuddalore, 14 Kms from Cuddalore Port Junction Railway Station, 14 Kms from Cuddalore Bus Stand, 15 Kms from Panruti, 31 Kms from Puducherry, 34 Kms from Puducherry Airport, 172 Kms from Chennai Airport and 182 Kms from Chennai. The Temple is situated on Cuddalore to Panruti Route.
