Thalaignayiru – The Temple
This Temple is facing towards east with three tiered Rajagopuram and has two prakarams. The Rajagopuram is not in alignment with the sanctum here. Nandi and Balipeedam can be seen found in front of the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Ardha Mandapam and Maha Mandapam. The Maha Mandapam is designed to look like the forehead of a bat (Vovval Nethi Mandapam).
Presiding Deity is called as Kutram Porutha Nathar / Aparadha Kshameswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Lord is a Swayambhu Murthy (self-manifested). The sanctum is situated in the ground level. Narthana Vinayakar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbhava, Brahma and Durga are the Koshta Idols located around the sanctum walls.
Chandikeswarar Shrine can be seen in his usual location. This shrine houses Chandikeswarar with his wife Yamini in a seated posture. Mother is called as Kolvalai Nayagi / Vichitra Balambigai. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated in Maha Mandapam to the left side of the Sanctum. There is a separate Mada Kovil (Hill Temple) with two floors inside this temple similar to the Sattainathar Temple at Sirkazhi.
The first floor houses the shrine of Thoniyappar / Uma Maheswarar. Here Lord Shiva is represented in idol form contrary to his Linga form. He is gracing the devotees with his consort Parvathy. Thoniyappar and Goddess Parvathy are also called as Garba Gnaneswarar and Garba Gnana Parameswari. The second floor houses the shrine of Sattainathar, a form of Bhairava. There are shrines for Siddhi Vinayagar, Murugan with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Mahalakshmi and Moovar in the temple premises.
Theertham associated with this Temple are Vinayaka Theertham (River Pazhavaru), Hanuman Theertham, Vasishta Theertham, Nimba Pushkarini, Indra Theertham, Sanka Pushkarini, Senkazhuneer Thadagam, Potramarai and Surya Theertham. Sthala Vriksham is Kokudi Mullai (a variety of Jasmine). Sthala Vriksham can be seen behind the Sanctum. Vinayaga Idol along with a Shiva Lingam can be seen under the Sthala Vriksham.
