Paadal Petra Sthalams:

This temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams (Shiva Sthalams) glorified in the early medieval Thevaram poems. This temple is considered as the 8^th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam in Thondai Nadu.

Thirupugazh Sthalams:

Lord Murugan of this temple had been praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his Thirupugazh hymns. Hence, this temple is considered one among the Thirupugazh Sthalams.
