Abathsahayeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Aduthurai Town in Thiruvidaimarudur Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Abathsahayeswarar and Mother is called as Pavalakkodi Ammai / Vandar Karumenkuzhal Mangai. The Temple is considered as one of the Saptha Sthana Temples of Kanjanur.




This Temple is the 148th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 31st Sthalam on south side of Cauvery River in Chozha Nadu. Thirugnana Sambandar and Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. Saint Arunagirinathar has sang songs in praise of Lord Murugan of this temple in his revered Thirupugazh

History
This ancient temple was a brick structure in ancient times. Queen Sembian Maadevi, wife of Kanadarathitya Chola and mother of Uthama Chola, renovated and converted the brick structure into a grand granite edifice. The place was called as Thiraimur Nadu, Bhoobalakulavalli and Thiru Kurangaduthurai during ancient times. There are about 15 inscriptions available in this temple. Majority of these inscriptions belong to Chola Dynasty and 2 of them belong to the Pandya Dynasty. This temple is under the maintenance of Thiruvavaduthurai Aadheenam.

Festivals
Vinayakar Chaturthi (Aug-Sept), Aippasi Annabishekam (Oct – Nov), Margazhi Thiruvadhirai (Dec-Jan), Masi Maha Shivrathri (Feb-Mar), Thiru Karthikai, Panguni Uthiram and Arudhra Dharisanam are the festivals celebrated here. Monthly Pradoshams are also observed regularly.

Prayers
Devotees believe that offering sandalwood oil to Sage Agastya idol on full moon day would fulfil one’s wishes. Worshiping Lord Suryan and Saneeswaran would improve the strained relationship between father and son. Devotees worship Lord Shiva of this temple for prosperity and wisdom.

The Temple is located at about 600 meters from Aduthurai Bus Stand, 1.5 Kms from Aduthurai Railway Station, 4 Kms from Thiruvidaimaruthur, 14 Kms from Kumbakonam, 14 Kms from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 23 Kms from Mayiladuthurai, 55 Kms from Thanjavur and 108 Kms from Trichy Airport.
