Yathothkari Perumal Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Kanchipuram City in Kanchipuram District of Tamil Nadu. This temple is also called as Tiruvekkaa Temple and Sonna Vannam Seitha Perumal Temple. Presiding deity is called as Yathothkari Perumal / Sonna Vannam Seitha Perumal / Vegasethu and Mother is called as Komalavalli Nachiyar. The temple is considered as one of three oldest temples in Kanchipuram, the other two being are Ulagalantha Perumal Temple and Pandava Thoothar Perumal Temple



The temple is revered in Nalayira Divya Prabandham, the 7th – 9th century Vaishnava canon, by Nammazhvar, Poigai Azhwar, Peyalvar, Thirumazhisai Azhwar and Thirumangai Azhwar. Hence, this temple is considered as one among the 108 Divya Desams. This temple is considered as the avathara sthalam of Poigai Azhwar. This temple is located close to Ashtabuja Perumal Temple and situated near Rangaswamy Tank in Chinna Kanchipuram. This temple is located on the way to Varadharaja Perumal Temple from Kanchipuram Bus Stand.

History

The temple is originally believed to be built in 8th century CE by Pallavas. The temple has around 12 inscriptions from the Chola and Vijayanagar period. An inscription dating back to the Chola king, Parantaka I (907 – 950 CE) indicates gift of 367 Kalanju of gold to the temple by an individual. The south wall of the central shrine of the temple has inscriptions dating back to the reign of Rajendra Chola I (1012 – 44 CE) indicating gifts of land measuring to one tuni of land and 127 Kalanju of gold to the temple.



The inscriptions on the base of the eastern wall of the central shrine from the period of Kulothunga Chola I (1070 – 1120 CE) indicates gift for lighting lamps of the temple. The southern side inscriptions of the temple from the period of Kulothunga Chola III (1178 – 1218 CE), indicates a gift of village to feed 32 Brahmins. The inscriptions also detail the float festival and the summer festival celebrated in the temple. The temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamilnadu.

The temple remains open from 07.00 am to 12.00 noon and 05.00 pm to 08.00 pm.
