Vedapuriswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Cheyyar Town in Cheyyar Taluk in Thiruvannamalai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Vedapureeswarar / Vedhanathar and Mother is called as Balakujambigai / Ilamulai Nayagi. The temple is situated on the northern banks of Cheyyar River. This temple is considered as one of the few temples where palm tree is the Sthala Vriksham.

This temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams (Shiva Sthalams) glorified in the early medieval Thevaram poems. This temple is considered as the 8^th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam in Thondai Nadu. Lord Murugan of this temple had been praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his Thirupugazh hymns. Hence, this temple is considered one among the Thirupugazh Sthalams.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 08.30 AM to 12.00 Noon and 03.30 PM to 08.30 PM.

Festivals

Thai Brahmotsavam is most famous festival celebrated in this temple. It is celebrated for 10 days during the Tamil month of Thai (Jan-Feb). This festival starts next day after the Thai Amavasya. Rathotsava (chariot procession) is celebrated during the 7^th day. Kailasha darshan festival for Ravana is celebrated on the last day. Aadi Laksha Deepam & Thirugnana Sambanthar festival on Visakam day (Jul-Aug), Masi Magam & Shivarathri (Feb-Mar), Panguni Uthiram (Mar-Apr), Monthly Deepa Puja for the Goddess, abishekam to the palm tree on every Tamil Month, Deepavali, Tamil & English New Year’s day and Pongal are also celebrated here. Monthly Pradoshams are also observed.

Prayers

Devotees worship Lord Shiva of this temple for prosperity, wisdom, employment opportunities, business development, job promotions and relief from mental worries. Devotees perform Sarpa Dosha Nivarthi Pooja at the Nagalingam on every Saturday morning (09.30 AM to 10.30 AM) to get relief from Sarpa dosha. Devotees worship Nagalingam for relief from depression, removing obstacles in marriage alliances and for child boon. Devotees offer the palm fruits to goddess Parvati and then consume the fruit after the pooja in a belief that they will be blessed with children.
