This temple is considered as one of the
shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams (Shiva Sthalams) glorified in the
early medieval Thevaram poems. This temple is considered as the 8th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva
Sthalam in Thondai Nadu.
Thirupugazh Sthalams:
Lord Murugan of this temple
had been praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his Thirupugazh hymns. Hence, this temple is considered one among the Thirupugazh Sthalams.
