Brahmapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thirumayanam in Thirukadaiyur Village near Karaikal in Tharangambadi Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Brahmapureeswarar / Periya Perumanadigal / Thirumayanamudaya Peruman and Mother is called as Malarkuzhal Minnammai / Amala Gujambigai / Vaadamulai Ammai / Amalakkuya Minnammai. This Temple is considered as one among the Pancha Mayana Kshetrams.
This Temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram hymns. This Temple is the 165th Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 48th sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. This Temple is considered as one of the 44 Paadal Petra Sthalams where the Moovar (Thirugnana Sambanthar, Appar and Sundarar) had rendered their Pathigams.

History
The Temple is believed to be built in 6rd Century CE. The temple was reconstructed in granite by the Later Cholas and extensively renovated by Pandyas and Vijayanagara Kings. Inscriptions from this temple are dated to the reigns of Cholas, Pandyas and Vijayanagara Kings. The place was called as Brahmapuri, Vilvaranyam, Shiva Vedapuri, Kadavur Mayanam, Thirumayanam and Thirumeignanam during ancient times. The place was called as Jayankonda Chozha Valanattu Akkur Nattu Thiru Kadavur / Thiruthondar Thogai Mangalam / Sivapada Sekara Mangalam / Thiruneetru Chozha Mangalam and Lord Shiva was called as Thirumayanamudaya Peruman as per the inscriptions.
