Brahmapureeswarar Temple, Ambal, Nagapattinam

Brahmapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Ambal Village in Nagapattinam Taluk in Nagapattinam District in Tamil Nadu, India. Presiding Deity is called as Brahmapureeswarar / Ambareesar / Maarapureeswarar and Mother is called as Sugantha Kunthalambigai / Poonguzhal Ammai / Vandamar Poonguzhali / Vambavana Poonguzhali. The temple is considered as one of the Mada Temples built by Kochengata Chola, an early Chola Emperor.





This temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram hymns. This temple is the 171st Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 54th sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. Lord Murugan of this temple is praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his revered Thirupugazh hymns. The temple is situated at about 2 Kms from Mahakalanathar Temple, Ambar Makalam.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 07.00 a.m to 11.00 .am and 04.30 p.m to 08.30 p.m.

Festivals

Masi Maha Shivaratri (Feb-Mar), Margazhi Thiruvadhirai (Dec-Jan) and Aippasi Annabishekam (Nov-Dec) are the festivals celebrated here. Special poojas are conducted on Masi Maham. Monthly pradoshams are also observed here.

Prayers

It is believed that marriage obstacles will be removed after worshiping Lord Shiva of this temple for five consecutive weeks. The devotees offer two garlands of which one will be returned to devotees, which should be used for the marriage. To fulfill their desires, people pray to the Lord Shiva and Parvati of this temple. When their desires are fulfilled, the devotees perform sacred bath to Lord Shiva and Parvati and adorn them with new clothes.

The temple is located at about 4 Kms from Poonthottam Railway Station, 5 Kms from Poonthottam, 5 Kms from Koothanur, 9 Kms from Peralam, 15 Kms from Nannilam, 21 Kms from Karaikal, 24 Kms from Thiruvarur, 25 Kms from Mayiladuthurai, 40 Kms from Kumbakonam, 80 Kms from Thanjavur and 141 Kms from Trichy Airport. The temple is situated on Poonthottam to Karaikal route.
