Ninth Mile Shooting Point is a spectacular meadow located in Ooty in Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu. Wenlock Downs is situated on the Ooty - Pykara road. It is a vast stretch covering an area of 20,000 acres of unending lush green grassy meadows and dense forests. On the way to Wenlock Downs lies two popular movie filming destinations known as Sixth Mile and Ninth Mile named so because of they are located at 6 miles and 9 miles away receptively away from Ooty, adding to the scenic beauty of Wenlock Downs.



The Gymkhana Club, the factory of the Hindustan Photo Films Company, the Government Sheep Farm and the Golf Course are all in Wenlock Downs. One cannot leave Ooty without a trip to the Downs. Visitors are left mesmerized with the picture postcard landscape of the Downs. Wenlock Downs is named after Sir Arthur Lawley's sibling Beilby Lawley, third Baron Wenlock.



The entire place is lined with majestically standing eucalyptus trees. One can also view beauty of the wild flowers like clustered summer Gentian, Dandelions, wild tea and balsam. This Place is also known as "Shooting Medu". Most of the Tamil movies and also Indian movies shoots had taken place here due to its natural beauty and scenic view.

Valley View Point is a tourist spot in Ooty Hill Station in Nilgiris District of Tamilnadu. It is situated on the Ooty - Coonoor Route. It has views over the Ketti valley. Ketti valley is sometimes referred to as the Switzerland of Southern India for its pleasant weather all through the year. The valley extends from the Mysore plateau to the Coimbatore plains and is one of the largest valleys in the world.

Uyillatti Falls is situated near Kotagiri Town near Ooty Hill Station in Kotagiri Taluk in Nilgiris District of Tamilnadu. Uyillatti Falls is also called as Elk Falls. Uyillatti Falls is situated close to the Uyillatti village. Though this waterfall comes in full gush only in the rainy season it is worth visiting this place to get the view of the Echoing Valley of Kukkal. It commands towards the north, an exquisite view of the valley of Kukkal, known for its famous oranges. This place is closed since govt identified a lot of accidents happening. You can watch the falls from long distance, can't go near and enjoy.


A European house or Kannerimukku, constructed by British collector Sullivan is located near the falls. This house was built during the colonial times of the British in India, in the year 1819 and was the first British residence in Tamil Nadu. At present it can even be considered as a historical ancient monument. The two-storeyed house is now in a sad-state or ruins.


Uyillatti Falls is located at about 9 Kms from Kotagiri Bus Stand, 9 Kms from Kotagiri, 26 Kms from Coonoor, 27 Kms from Coonoor Railway Station, 40 Kms from Mettupalayam Railway Station, 33 Kms from Ooty, 74 Kms from Coimbatore and 77 Kms from Coimbatore Airport. Buses are available from Kotagiri Bus Stand to this place frequently. Private Taxis are available from Ooty, Kotagiri and Coonoor to reach this place.

Upper Bhavani Lake is situated near Ooty Hill Station in Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu. This is a beautiful blue-green lake perched inside the deep forest of Nilgiri. This is one of the last few places in country, still protected well from the insensible common tourist and is a must visit for anyone who admires nature in its raw beauty. It is actually the backwater of Upper Bhavani Dam. The route is replete with sholas trees and the entire area is a wildlife habitat.




Tourists can go for trekking from Bangithapal through Sispara to the Silent Valley. For trekking in this region, it is necessary to get permission from the forest department. There is a huge dam on this lake, which is the major source of water for the nearby regions. The entire region of Upper Bhavani, which gets over 5000 mm of annual rainfall, is dominated by the sholas and wattle plantations. This place is the perfect location for hiking, and trekking.




With the reservoir in the backdrop, there is TNEB guest house in Upper Bhavani for overnight stays. Tourists should get TNEB permission for staying in their guest house. There are 2 suites, charge is 500 rupees per room. a Cook is available for cooking with the available rations. Foods will be provided at extra cost. Visitors should note that as the lake is situated in the Nilgiri Biosphere reserve, prior permission is needed from the forest office in Ooty.




Private vehicles are not allowed into the Sanctuary and visitors have to take Forest Department mini bus for a 2 hours ride into the Sanctuary, covering Lake, Bhavani Temple and Hydro power plant. The bus starts from Forest Department Check Post 3 Kms before the Avalanche Lake. The buses are run between 9 AM to 3 PM (2 hours ride) at specific intervals. It is advised to take the 9 AM bus to have better chances of wildlife sighting. Jeeps are also available for a group of 8 people.
