Pachaimalai Hills, Trichy
Pachaimalai Hills, Trichy
Pachaimalai Hills, also known as the Pachais, are low mountain range in the Eastern Ghats System, located in Trichy District of Tamil Nadu. In the Tamil language, Pachai means green. The range's vegetation is greener than some of the other hills in the region. Pachaimalai Hills is verdant greenery hillock and the place is still not explored much and maintained its virgin beauty. The Hills altitude ranges 500 m to 1000 meters above MSL. This mountain range in itself has different small regions like Thenparanadu, Kombainadu, Athi Nadu and Vannadu.
The verdant environment atop the hills endowed with thick forest areas, ridges and valleys and a home to various birds and animals has attracted a steady stream of visitors during holiday season. The forest extends over 425 sq. km and comprises four types of trees: deciduous, semi-moist, sub-tropical dry deciduous and dry deciduous.
Rivers in the Pachaimalai Hills include the Sweata Nadi and Kallar River. Waterfalls include the Koraiyar Falls, Mangalam Aruvi falls, and Mayil Uthu falls. The Veera Ramar Dam is located on the Kallar River in the Hills. Indigenous tribes, such as the Malayalis (not to be confused with Malayali of Kerala), trade some of their surplus agricultural products they grow in the hills, at towns on the plains for items not available in the hills. Jackfruit is a popular seasonal agriculture product from the hills.
