Sivaloganathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Vellappakkam Village in Cuddalore Taluk in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Sivaloganathar and Mother is called as Shivagama Sundari. The Village was called as Vellalar Pakkam in ancient times and got corrupted to Vellappakkam.

The Temple

This Temple is facing towards east and covers an area of about 2 acres. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum and Maha Mandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Sivaloganathar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Brahma, Dakshinamoorthy and Lingodbhava are the Koshta Idols located around the sanctum walls.

Chandikeswarar Shrine can be seen in his usual location. Mother is called as Shivagama Sundari. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated on the Maha Mandapam. There are shrines for Vinayagar, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Nudhana Durga, Saneeswarar, Mahalakshmi, Nagas, Navagrahas, Chandikeswarar, Bhairavar and Suryan in the Temple premises.

Kailasanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Nellikkuppam Town in Panruti Taluk in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari. The Temple was believed to be built by Pallavas and is about 1400 years old.

History

The Temple was believed to be built by Pallavas and is about 1400 years old. The temple has received royal patronage from Cholas, Nayaks, Kadavas and Vijayanagara Kings. The temple was constructed during the reign of Mahendravarma Pallava I (600-630 CE). It is said that Mahendravarma Pallava started building Shiva Temples over Jain Shrines when he was converted to Shaivism from Jainism by the efforts of Thirunavukkarasar (Appar). This Temple is considered one among those converted shrines.

During the desilting of the temple tank in recent times, people had found an ancient Jain Theerthangar statue dating back to 5^th Century AD. The Temple authorities installed the statue in the temple premises. The Temple received patronage from Kundavai Nachiyar, elder sister of Chola Emperor Rajaraja Chola I. An inscription on the lintel of the sanctum attests this fact. There is an inscription dated to Chola King Vikrama Chola (1118 – 1135 CE) talks about the renovation done by Chola Emperor Rajendra Chola I.

The temple was called as Kailsamudaiya Rajendra Chozheswaram and the place was called as Rajaraja Valanattu Cholavalli Nallur in the inscriptions available in this temple. Mandapams, Veera Anjaneya Shrine and the walls were built during Nayak Period. There is an inscription dated to 17^th Century CE mentions about the temple renovations carried out by Irandaairam Mudaligal. The Temple contains ten Chola era inscriptions, one Nayakkar period inscriptions and rest three inscriptions are of recent origin.

The Temple

This Temple is facing towards east, but the temple entrance is from the southern side as the eastern entrance is not in use due to the encroachment by the locals. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Artha Mandapam and Maha Mandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Kailasanathar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Dakshinamoorthy (without the Banyan tree behind him), Vishnu Durga with a Prayoga Chakra (bison head at her feet is missing), Vishnu, Vinayaga and Brahma are the Koshta idols located around the sanctum walls.

Idols of Lord Murugan and Vinayaga can be found at the entrance of the sanctum. Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her idol is around 6 feet tall. Her shrine is situated to left side of the sanctum. There is a shrine for Lord Vinayaga in the south west corner of the Temple premises. There is a small shrine in the form of Maadakoil can be found next to the Vinayaga Shrine. It might have housed a Lingam in ancient times. Now, no deity is enshrined in this shrine.

There is a shrine for Lord Murugan in the temple premises. This shrine houses Baladhandayuthapani facing south and Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai facing east. Sthala Vriksham, Vanni tree is located near to Murugan Shrine. There is a small Lingam beneath this Tree. There are shrines for Veera Anjaneya, Bhairavar, Kala Bhairavar, Suryan, Vishnu, Navagrahas, Veerabhadra, Chandikeswarar, Ayyanar with his consorts Poorna & Pushkala and Jyeshta Devi with Maanthi & Kuligai in the Temple premises.

The Temple is believed to be built by Chola Emperor Rajendra Chola I. The Temple was renovated by Vaiyapuri Paradesiyar in 18^th Century A.D.

The Temple

This Temple is facing towards east with three tiered Rajagopuram. Nandi, Balipeedam and Dhwaja Sthambam can be found facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Maha Mandapam, Artha Mandapam and Sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Bhoologanathar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Bhuvanambigai. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated in Maha Mandapam.

There is a south facing shrine housing Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal and Alarmelu Mangai in Maha Mandapam. There is a shrine for Vishnu Durga in the Temple premises. She is sitting over Padma (Lotus) with 8 arms (Ashta Bhuja) is special. There are shrines for Swarna Vinayagar, Muthu Kumara Swamy with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Kala Bhairavar, Chandikeswarar, Bala Murugan, Dakshinamoorthy and Navagrahas in the Temple premises. Sthala Vriksham is Vilwa tree.

Ani Thirumanjanam, Aadi Thirukalyanam (Marriage Festival), Puratasi Maha Shivaratri and monthly Pradoshams are celebrated here.

Thiruvanantheeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Ma Pudaiyur Village in Thittagudi Taluk in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Thiruvanantheeswarar and Mother is called as Thirupura Sundari. The Temple is believed to be built by Cholas.

Legends

It is believed that Anandan, a Naga, worshipped Lord Shiva here. Hence, Lord Shiva came to be called as Thiruvanantheeswarar.

The Temple is facing towards east with an entrance arch. The entrance arch has stucco images of Rishabaroodar flanked by Lord Vinayaga and Lord Murugan. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Artha Mandapam and Maha Mandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Thiruvanantheeswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. There are life size sculptures of Chola Kings in worshipping posture can be seen on either sides in Sanctum.

Vinayaga, Dakshinamoorthy, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga are the Kosha idols located around the sanctum walls. There is a relief depicting the legend of the temple i.e. a snake worshipping Lord Shiva and King with his family in worshipping posture can be seen near Vinayaga in Koshta. Chandikeswarar shrine can be seen in his usual location. There are several inscriptions on the Adhistana of the Sanctum.

Mother is called as Thirupura Sundari. She is housed in a separate east facing shrine. There is an ancient Dakshinamoorthy idol can be seen at the entrance of Mother Shrine. It might be the original Koshta Idol once. There is a shrine for Lord Murugan in between sanctum and Mother Shrine. Thus, forming Somaskanda formation. He is having 12 hands and found seated on peacock. There are shrines for Vinayaga, Ayyapan and Navagrahas in the temple premises.

Vinayagar, Dakshinamoorthy, Lingodbhava, Brahma and Durga are the Koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Chandikeswarar Shrine can be found in his usual location. The Vimana over the sanctum is tall and is richly decorated with stucco images of Ananda Sayana Vishnu, Nataraja and other Hindu deities.

Mother is called as Periya Nayagi / Brihannayagi. She is housed in a separate east facing shrine. Her shrine is situated to the left side of the sanctum. Her idol is about 5 feet tall. There is a big idol of Ambika at the entrance of her shrine. This Idol might be the original idol housed in the sanctum in ancient times.

There are shrines for Vinayaga, Murugan, Bhairavar, Suryan and Navagrahas in the temple premises. There are few inscriptions found in the Adishtana of the temple. An inscription dated to 12^th Century CE talks about the gift given to Eesanathevar Madam by Vaanarayan. Also, another inscription talks about the installation of Vinayaga in the Koshta by a person named Maruthanthapuram Petran Perumal.

Mother is called as Shivagama Sundari. She is housed in a separate east facing shrine. Her shrine is situated to the left side of the sanctum. There are shrines for Vinayaga, Murugan, Navagrahas, Bhairavar and Nagas in the temple premises.
