Varadaraja Perumal Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Kayar Village in Thiruporur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Varadaraja Perumal and Mothers are Sridevi & Bhudevi. The temple is believed to be built in 17^th century by the Nayak Kings.

The Temple

This temple is facing towards east with an entrance arch. The entrance arch has stucco images of Varadharaja Perumal flanked by Sridevi and Bhoodevi. Deepa Sthambam can be seen in front of the entrance arch on the road. Balipeedam and Garuda can be seen in front of the mukha mandapam facing towards the sanctum. The temple consists of sanctum, ardha mandapam and open pillared mukha mandapam.

The sanctum enshrines the presiding deity, Varadaraja Perumal. He is in standing posture along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. Sculptures of Ananda Sayana Vishnu, Narasimha, Lakshmi, Ramanuja etc can be seen on the pillars of the mukha mandapam. There is south facing shrine enshrining the images of Azhwar in the temple premises.

The temple is situated at about 9 Kms from Mambakkam Junction on Vandalur to Kelambakkam route. Kamala Narayana Perumal Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Kayar Village in Thiruporur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Kamala Narayana Perumal and Mothers are Sridevi & Bhudevi.

History

The temple is believed to be built by the Pallavas in 8^th century CE and later extensively renovated by Cholas. The temple was completely renovated in recent years in such a way that its ancient features are lost permanently except the two stone slabs with Chola period inscriptions, There are two undated inscriptions belonged to the Cholas in this temple. These inscriptions refer the temple as Urudaipperumal Thiru Metralidevar at Kayaru in Kumulinadu, a subdivision of Amur Kottam. The village was also called as Kamala Narayana Chaturvedi Mangalam in ancient times.

The Temple

This temple is facing towards east. Balipeedam and Garudan can be seen in front of the temple facing towards the sanctum. The temple consists of sanctum, artha mandapam and mukha mandapam. The sanctum enshrines the presiding deity Kamala Narayana Perumal. He is seen in standing posture flanked by his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. Vinayaga, Lakshmi Narasimha, Vishnu, Lakshmi Hayagreeva and Durga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls.

This temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram hymns. This temple is the 260^th Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 2^nd Shiva Sthalam in Kongu Nadu. Sundarar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. Lord Murugan of this temple is praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his revered Thirupugazh hymns. The temple finds mention in Kongu Mandala Sadhagam, written by Karmega Pulavar and Avinashi Puranam. The Sthalapuranam of this temple was written by Chettipalayam Vasudeva Mudaliyar.
