Kamala Narayana Perumal Temple, Kayar, Chengalpattu

Kamala Narayana Perumal Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Kayar Village in Thiruporur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Kamala Narayana Perumal and Mothers are Sridevi & Bhudevi.


History

The temple is believed to be built by the Pallavas in 8th century CE and later extensively renovated by Cholas. The temple was completely renovated in recent years in such a way that its ancient features are lost permanently except the two stone slabs with Chola period inscriptions, There are two undated inscriptions belonged to the Cholas in this temple. These inscriptions refer the temple as Urudaipperumal Thiru Metralidevar at Kayaru in Kumulinadu, a subdivision of Amur Kottam. The village was also called as Kamala Narayana Chaturvedi Mangalam in ancient times.

The Temple

This temple is facing towards east. Balipeedam and Garudan can be seen in front of the temple facing towards the sanctum. The temple consists of sanctum, artha mandapam and mukha mandapam. The sanctum enshrines the presiding deity Kamala Narayana Perumal. He is seen in standing posture flanked by his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. Vinayaga, Lakshmi Narasimha, Vishnu, Lakshmi Hayagreeva and Durga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls.

The temple is located at about 250 metres from Kayar Bus Stop, 5 Kms from Kattur, 9 Kms from Thiruporur, 10 Kms from Thiruporur Bus Stand, 11 Kms from Kelambakkam, 23 Kms from Guduvanchery Railway Station, 25 Kms from Vandalur, 25 Kms from Chengalpattu, 27 Kms from Chengalpattu Junction Railway Station, 30 Kms from Tambaram, 34 Kms from Chennai Airport and 47 Kms from Chennai. The temple is situated at about 9 Kms from Mambakkam Junction on Vandalur to Kelambakkam route. MTC Bus No 555M from Tambaram to Thiruporur passes through Kayar and Mambakkam. Share Autos and Autos are available from Mambakkam Junction and Thiruporur.
