Subramanya Swami Temple, Kangeyanallur – The Temple

Subramanya Swami Temple, Kangeyanallur – The Temple
This is a beautiful small temple with some excellent old carvings including a snake and fish image. The temple has a 5 tier Rajagopuram on the east and a smaller 3-tiered gopuram on the south. The temple walls have some beautiful images of common people and divinity on the top. Sculptures are artistically engraved in the gopuram depicting the Kandapuranam and the six Padaiveedus of Lord Muruga. The temple has two prakarams, two entrances. Vinayaka in this temple is praised as Sundara Vinayaka.

Presiding Deity is called as Subramanya Swamy / Kangeyan. The presiding deity Subramanya is found in a standing posture along with his consorts Valli and Devasena in wedding form in the sanctum sanctorum. There are special Dwarapalakas (security men) and an entrance for him. Devotees offer their first worship to saint Arunagiriar before going to Lord’s shrine. Urchavar is Shanmugar.

There are shrines for gods Vinayaka, Kasi Viswanatha, Visalakshi, Saraswathi, Lakshmi, Sun, Veerabhadra, nine lieutenants of Lord Muruga, Naalvar, Nagar, Pamban Swamy, Arunagirinathar, Dakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma, Durga and Bhairava. Sri Smitra Chandikeswara also has his shrine here. Theertham associated with this Temple is Saravana Poigai. This Theertham was created by Kirupananda Variyar.
