Lord
Vishnu appears in three postures in Thittagudi:
In order to safeguard living beings in earth, it is said
that Lord Vishnu appears in three forms in Thittagudi. Lord Vishnu appears in
sitting posture here, he appears in sleeping posture in Vasishtapuram on the
eastern side and he appears in standing posture in Kuthappankudikadu on the
western side.
Vasishta
Kudi:
As Sage Vasishta lived here, the place came to be called
as Vasishta Kudi (Vathitta Kudi). Later the name got corrupted to Thittagudi.
Thittai
Kudi:
Thittai means sand bar. This village is situated on
large sand bar on the banks of Vellaru River. As the residents (Kudi Makkal in
Tamil) lived in this village situated on sand bar (Thittai), the village came
to be called as Thittai Kudi and later got corrupted to Thittagudi.
Vellaru
River:
Vellaru River was called as Neeva Nathi, Swetha Nathi,
Paruvaru and Uthama Chozha Peraru in ancient times.
