Amirtha Kadeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thirukadaiyur Village near Karaikal in Tharangambadi Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Amirtha Kadeswarar / Amirtha Lingeswarar and Mother is called as Abhirami. This Temple is considered as one of the Atta Veerattanam Temples (Atta means eight and Veeram means bravery). This Temple is considered as one of the six sthalams where one can get relieved from the fear of Lord Yama. This Temple is considered as a special temple where people come here to perform the marriage rituals on special occasions.





This Temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram hymns. This Temple is the 164th Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 47th sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. This Temple is considered as one of the 44 Paadal Petra Sthalams where the Moovar (Thirugnana Sambanthar, Appar and Sundarar) had rendered their Pathigams. Lord Murugan of this Temple is praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his revered Thirupugazh hymns. Thirukadaiyur is considered as the birth place for Kungiliya Kalaya Nayanar, Kaari Nayanar and Abhirami Bhattar, the author of Abhirami Andhathi.

The Temple remains open from 06.00 AM to 01.00 PM and 04.00 PM to 09.00 PM.

Festivals

18 days Kala Samharam in Chithirai (Apr-May), Aadi Pooram (Jul-Aug), Purattasi Navaratri (Sep-Oct), Aipasi Skanda Shashti, Deepavali & Annabishekam (Oct-Nov), Karthigai Deepam & 1008 Shankhabhishekam on Karthigai Somavaram (Nov-Dec), Margazhi Thiruvadhirai & Vishi Padam (Dec-Jan), Thai Poosam & Pongal (Jan-Feb), Masi Maha Shivrathri (Feb-Mar) and Panguni Uthiram (Mar-Apr) are the festivals celebrated here. English New Year, Pradoshams, Amavasya and Pournami are also observed here. The temple follows a devotional practice of Andhadhi Parayanam and worshipping the Moon on the New Moon day of Thai.

The Temple is located at about 1 Km from Thirukadaiyur Bus Stop, 9 Kms from Tharangambadi, 15 Kms from Poompuhar, 22 Kms from Karaikal, 22 Kms from Mayiladuthurai, 23 Kms from Sirkazhi, 24 Kms from Mayiladuthurai Junction Railway Station and 147 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated on the bus route  from Mayiladuthurai to Tharangambadi. Regular buses are available from Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Karaikal and Tharangambadi.
