Significance
Ashta Veeratta Sthalams:
As per legend, Lord Shiva is
believed to have vanquished demons and evil forces at eight different places
and exhibited acts of bravery. These places are collectively called as Ashta
Veeratta Sthalams / Atta Veerattana Sthalams. Thirukkadaiyur is the place
where Lord Yama was believed to have been kicked and punished to save
Markandeya.

find a place among the celebrated 63 Nayanmars of Shaivism. It is said both of
them attained salvation (mukthi) here.

Bhattar:
Thirukadaiyur is considered as
the birth place of Abhirami Bhattar, the author of Abhirami Andhathi.
