Veerattaneswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Thiruvathigai Village near Panruti in Cuddalore District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Veeratteswarar / Veerattaneswarar / Athigai Nathar / Tirukedilavanar. Mother is called as Thiripurasundari / Umayammai / Periya Nayaki. The temple complex is one of the largest in the state and it houses two gateway towers known as gopurams. The temple complex houses many halls and two precincts.








The temple has six daily rituals at various times from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and twelve yearly festivals on its calendar. The temple is maintained and administered by Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam, a South Indian monastic institution. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Thevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the Nayanmars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. This is the 39th Devaram Padal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 7th Sthalam of Nadu Naadu.









Moovar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. The temple is considered the place where the Saiva saint poet Appar (Thirunavukkarasar) attained salvation and converted to Saivism. Thiruvathigai is one of the Atta Veerattana Sthalams of Lord Shiva where Lord Shiva vanquished the Thiripura demons (Thiripura Samharam).
