Uchinathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Sivapuri near Chidambaram in Cuddalore District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Uchinathar / Uchinatheswarar / Madhyaneswarar and Mother is called as Kanakambigai. Sivapuri was called as Thirunelvayil in historical times. The temple complex covers an area of one acre and all its shrines are enclosed with concentric rectangular walls. The last consecration ceremony (Kumbabishekam) took place on 11.09.2008. Before that, the ceremonies were held on 01.09.1982, 16.06.1957 and 24.05.1928.






The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Thevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the Nayanmars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. The temple is praised in the Thevaram hymns of Saint Tirugnanasambandar.  This is the 57th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 3rd Shiva Sthalam on the north side of river Cauvery In Chozha Nadu. Saint Arunagirinathar has sung songs in praise of Lord Murugan of this temple in his revered Thirupugazh.

Prayers
Parents perform the Anna Prasanna ritual (first rice feeding of the child) in the temple hoping that the child would never face food problem in life. Devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother and offer vastras.
