Kalyani Theertham, Agasthiyar Falls, Papanasam,
Thirunelveli
Kalyani Theertham
is a sacred located near Agasthiyar Falls in Papanasam in Thirunelveli District
of Tamilnadu. It is a sacred pool from where Papanasam Falls get the water. The
pool is situated at an elevation of 125 feet over the head of the falls. A
temple of Lord Shiva can be found near the pool. There are some sacred places
around this place and it is said that Siddhars come here in the form of light
after midnight daily.
It is
the starting point for Agasthiyar falls and the Tamirabarani River, sort of a
small lake surrounded by walls of huge rocks with ancient sculptures on them,
few small temples and the Sadhu Krishnaveni Ammal ashram. This place is much
more beautiful than Agasthiar falls. The water over here is crystal clear and
appears to be much cleaner.
People
are allowed to take bath in the stream but not allowed to reach up to
waterfalls due to security reasons. Kalyani Theertham is located at about
4 kms from Papanasam on the hilly terrain near Agasthiyar falls. One can reach
the Agasthiyar falls and Kalyani Theertham by trekking a distance of 3 Kms.
Papanasam
is around 52 Kms from Thirunelveli, 16 Kms from Ambasamudram, 34 Kms from
Tenkasi, 215 Kms from Madurai and 140 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram. Nearest
Railway Station is located at Ambasamudram and Nearest Airport is located at
Madurai and Thiruvananthapuram.
