Kuttralanathar
Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located at Courtrallam in Thirunelveli
District of Tamilnadu. Courtallam is a popular tourist resort in
Southern Tamilnadu known for its waterfalls, amidst picturesque
surroundings and is a source of inspiration of many a literary work. Thousands
visit this town when the waterfalls are in season. Kutralam is also known
as Trikootaachalam. The Temple follows Maghudagama System. Since the temple
follows Maghudagama System, One has to worship Lord Vinayaga and Lord Nataraja
before worshipping Thirukutralanaathar.
Saint
Tirugnanasambandar of 7th Century A.D. glorifies the Lord of Kutralam in 2
pathigams one of which relates to the Sthala Vruksha. Other Saints
Thirunavukkarasar Manickavasagar Pattinathar etc., have poured forth their
feelings of spiritual ecstasy in soul – stirring lyrics. This is the 257th Paadal
Petra Shiva Sthalam and 13th Shiva Sthalam in Pandya Nadu.
Kutralam
represents one of the 5 Pancha Sabhas of Nataraja - Chitra Sabhai. The five
dance halls of Shiva are Chidambaram, Madurai, Thiruvalangadu, Tirunelveli and Kutralam. The temple is dedicated to Thiru Courtrallanathar,
Thirukootachalapathi and Kuzhaivaimozhi Amman (Devi whose voice is as sweet as
the music of the flute). Jack tree is the Sthala Vruksha. This temple is
administrated by The Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Department of
Tamilnadu.

Prayers
Those
mentally retarded and suffering from skin troubles get all relief with a bath
in the falls and prayer to Lord Kuttralanathar. Those suffering from
intense headache use the Thaila Prasad (Oil Prasad) and rub it on their
foreheads for cure. Devotees perform abishek and archanas to Lord and Mother
and offer vastras.

Temple is located at about 7 Kms from Tenkasi, 15 Kms from Panpoli, 4 Kms from
Ilanji, 7 Kms from Sengottai, 35 Kms from Papanasam, 40 Kms from Ambasamudram,
65 Kms from Thirunelveli, 165 Kms from Madurai and 108 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram.
Kuttralam is easily reachable from any corner of Tamilnadu. Bus facilities are conveniently
available to Kuttralam from Madurai and from Thirunelveli.
Lot of
Town and mini buses are available to Kutralam from Tenkasi during Saaral season
and frequency is less during non-season. Tenkasi is located on the bus and
train route to Sengottai from Thirunelveli, Madurai, and Chennai etc. Nearest
Railway Station is located at Tenkasi and Sengottai. Nearest Airport is located
at Madurai and Thiruvananthapuram.
