Sundara Anjaneyar Temple, Kallukuzhi, Trichy
Sundara Anjaneyar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated
to Lord Hanuman located at Kallukuzhi near Trichy Railway Station in Trichy
City in Trichy District of Tamilnadu.
Legends
Anjaneya of the temple was a pavement deity about
90 year ago on the second platform of Tiruchirappalli Railway Junction. The
railway staff and the passengers used to worship him. In the year 1928, when
works began to link the railway line of Erode and Nagapattinam, Armsby, the
then General Manager of Railway district ordered removal of this Anjaneya.
Though the structure was demolished, they could not remove the idol. The
manager had a dream that night that two trains had derailed at the place where Anjaneya
existed.
He rushed to the spot and found his dream true. But
all passengers were safe. Realizing his folly, he immediately ordered special
pujas to him and immediately allotted a vast space for a temple. That space was
Kallukuzhi. He also arranged sufficient funds for the temple project. After
completing the temple construction and special pujas, the officials were able
to move the idol to the new temple. This is built in the Kallukuzhi railway
staff colony.
The
Temple
The Temple is having a 3-tiered Rajagopuram facing
east with a single prakaram. The Dwajasthambam (flag post) is tall enough in
the Maha mandapam after the Raja Gopuram entrance facing east. There are small
separate shrines for Lords Vinayaka and Muruga under the twin tree of Bothi and
Neem left of the flag post. Next is the Artha Mandapam where Lord Anjaneya
graces the devotees from the sanctum sanctorum of 3 feet in height and 2 feet
in width.
He left leg is northward and the right eastward and
is bending towards north resembling the Omkara Mantra design. He is holding a
Parijatha flower in the left hand and the right assuring the devotees of all
relief from their problems – Abhaya Hastha. As he is facing the Kubera
direction (North), it is believed that worshipping him would bring great
prosperities. The procession deity, about two feet tall, holding a club in the
left hand and covered by silver is made of Panchaloka – an alloy of five
metals.
Chakrathazhwar with his 16 hands is in a separate
shrine in the prakara. This shrine was built during the renovation of the
temple two years ago. On each Chitra star day every month special abishekam and
Sudarshana Homa are dedicated to Azhwar. Lord Yoga Narasimha with his four
hands graces from a shrine behind.
Lord Panduranga shrine is on the left of the
presiding deity with an ancient banyan tree covering a vast space. The leaves
are big and broad. The dhyana Mandapam is next. Yoga Anjaneya in his big form
facing east graces the devotees. Navagrahas are in the north east corner. Under
the twin trees, Neem and Bodhi, are Lords Vinayaka, Muruga in a line. Nagar
shrine is behind this line.

Opening Time
The temple remains open from 6.00 a.m. to 10.00
a.m. and from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Festivals
Hanuman Jayanthi is very grandly celebrated in this
temple with much fanfare.
Prayers
Those aspiring an overseas trip and to be relieved
from the impact Sani Bhagwan’s adverse aspects and seeking promotions in jobs
pray to Sri Anjaneya. As he is facing the Kubera direction (north) it is
believed that prayer here would bring prosperity to the devotee. The temple
conducts Sudarshana Homa each month and special pujas on Saturdays. Devotees
perform abishek to Sri Anjaneya and offer the traditional Vadamala.

Temple is situated near to Trichy Railway Junction. The Temple is located at
about 1 Km from Sethuraman Pillai Colony Bus Stop, 6 Kms from Trichy Fort
Railway Station, 6 Kms from Trichy Town Railway Station, 2 Kms from Trichy
Central Bus Stand, 7 Kms from Trichy Chatiram Bus Station and 5 Kms from Trichy
Airport.
