Soundararaja Perumal Temple,
Kadichambadi, Thanjavur
Soundararaja Perumal Temple is a
Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Kadichambadi Village in
Kumbakonam Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called
as Soundararaja Perumal and Mother is called as Soundaravalli.
Legends
Kadichambadi:
When a king stayed here, he was
woken up by a bird's sound (Kirricham - a bird, Padi - sings). Hence, the
village came to be called as Kirricham Padi and later got corrupted to
Kadichambadi.
Lord Brahma got darshan of Lord Vishnu here:
As per legend, it is believed
that Lord Brahma got darshan of Lord Vishnu here.
Brighu Theertham:
It is believed that Sage Brighu
performed penance near this temple tank to get rid of his sin. Hence, the
Theertham came to be called as Brighu Theertham.
The Temple
The Temple is facing towards
east with three tiered Rajagopuram. Shrine of Garuda can be found at the
entrance of the temple facing the sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Soundararaja
Perumal and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum flanked by his consorts
Sridevi and Bhoodevi. Mother is called as Soundaravalli. She is housed in a
separate east facing shrine.
There are shrines and idols of Andal,
Anjaneya, Nammalvar, Thirumangai Alwar and Ramanuja can be seen in the temple
premises. The temple tank, Brighu Theertham or Brahma Theertham, is located to
the north of the temple. There are inscriptions in the walls of Soundaravalli
Shrine and Alwar Shrine.
Festivals
Shravana during Purattasi month
is celebrated here with much fanfare.

Kms from Neerathanallur, 5 Kms from Eragaram, 7 Kms from Kumbakonam, 8 Kms from
Kumbakonam Bus Stand, 9 Kms from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 44 Kms from Thanjavur
and 96 Kms from Trichy Airport. . The Temple is situated on Kumbakonam to
Neerathanallur Route.
