Pushpavaneswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thirupuvanam Town in Thirupuvanam Taluk in Sivaganga District of Tamil Nadu. The temple is also called as Poovananathar Temple. Presiding deity is called as Pushpavaneswarar / Poovananathar / Pithru Muktheeswarar and Mother is called as Soundaryanayaki / Minnanayal / Azhagiya Nayagi. This temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram hymns. This temple is considered as 255th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 11th sthalam in Pandya Nadu.
This temple is considered as one of the 44 Paadal Petra Sthalams where the Moovar (Thirugnana Sambanthar, Appar and Sundarar) had
rendered their Pathigams. This temple
is considered one among the Thirupugazh Sthalams as Lord Murugan of this temple
is praised in the revered Thirupugazh hymns of 15th century CE Saint
Arunagirinathar. This temple is the site of one
of the 64 Thiruvilayadals (divine plays) of Lord Shiva. The temple is situated
on the southern banks of Vaigai river. The temple is maintained and
administered by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of
Tamil Nadu.

Aavani Vinayagar Chathurthi (Aug-Sep), Purattasi Navaratri (Sep-Oct), Aipasi
Kolattam (Oct-Nov), Karthigai Deepam (Nov-Dec), Margazhi Thiruvadhirai
(Dec-Jan), Masi Maha Shivaratri (Feb-Mar) and 10 days Panguni Brahmotsavam
(Mar-Apr) are the festivals celebrated here. Monthly pradoshas are also
observed here.

The temple is located at about 500 metres from
Thiruppuvanam Bus Stop, 1 Km from Thiruppuvanam Railway Station, 20 Kms from Madurai,
27 Kms from Madurai Airport, 29 Kms from Manamadurai and 29 Kms from Sivaganga.
The temple is situated in Thiruppuvanam Town on Madurai to Manamadurai route. Town
buses are available from Mattuthavani Bus stand. Buses from Madurai to
Manamadurai, Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram and Rameswaram pass through
Thirupuvanam. Thirupuvanam is situated on the Madurai to Manamadurai Train
route.
