Mahaveerar Jain Temple, Setharakuppam, Thiruvannamalai
Mahaveerar
Jain Temple is located at Setharakuppam Village in Thiruvannamalai District of
Tamilnadu. Setharakuppam Village is located at about 8 Kms southeast of
Vandavasi town. Jains in the village constructed this Jinalaya in 2005 AD from
the remnants of olden Jinalaya. This Temple is South facing and got Shri
Mahaveerar, stone carving idol with all features, on the plinth in the sanctum.
Above
the gharbahriha, a vimana has four Thirthankar statues in sitting posture with
chamara maids and shikhara with tri-umbrella as Kalasha on the top (as unique).
At the aisle of sanctum Shri Kooshmandini idol is placed in east platform. On
the west, the temple has metal idols of Shri Parshwanathar, Shri Mahaveerar, 24
Thirthankar cluster, Shri Dharanendrar, Shri Padmavathy, Shri Jwalamalini.
Next to
the chamber a terrace hall is enclosed with walls and Iron grill gate for
security. Above the entranceway a small gallery with Thirthankar was placed. On
the top of the hall, Lion icons on four corners are located. The Temple has an open
corridor with pavement around the temple structure.
In addition
to the daily pooja and special pooja; Ayutha pooja, Shri Mahaveerar Jayanthi
and Kanum Pongal day urchavam for Lord Mahaveerar are celebrated in grand
manner.
Setharakuppam
Village is located at about 8 Kms southeast of Vandavasi town, 25 Kms from Melmaruvathur,
47 Kms from Arani and 43 Kms from Kanchipuram. Nearest Railway Station is
located at Melmaruvathur and Nearest Airport is located at Chennai.
