Katary Falls is located near Kateri Dam in picturesque Nilgiris Hills near Ooty Hill
Station in Coonoor Taluk of Nilgiris District of Tamilnadu. Katary Falls is about 55 metres
(180 ft) in height. Katary Falls is third largest waterfall in the Nilgiris;
one can reach it by trekking. The falls are the site of India's first hydel
power plant, the Kateri hydroelectric system.
This waterfalls and the dam is in the control of the Central Government Defence
and a protected area.
Katary Falls is located at about 2.5 Kms from Thooratty Bus Stop, 15 Kms
from Coonoor, 13 Kms from Coonoor Bus Stand, 13 Kms from Coonoor Railway Station,
13 Kms from Ooty Bus Stand, 15 Kms from Ooty, 14 Kms from Ooty Railway Station,
32 Kms from Kotagiri, 40 Kms from Mettupalayam Railway Station and 77 Kms from
Coimbatore Airport. Private Taxis are available from Ooty and Coonoor to reach
this place.
