Ezhumesvaramudaiyar Temple,

Ezhumesvaramudaiyar Temple is
a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Kovilkulam Village near
Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as
Ezhumesvaramudaiyar and Mother is called as Paalinum Nanmozhiyal. The Temple is
considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns had a mention about this
Temple. The place was called as Thalikulam in ancient times.
Legends
There was a King named Thulasi
Maharajan was suffering from Leprosy. He Prayed to Lord Shiva for cure. Lord
Shiva advised him to go to Thalikulam. He built a Temple for Lord Shiva and
excavated a Temple Pond. Hence the village got the name Kovilkulam. He was also
got cured of his leprosy by the grace of Lord Shiva here. His son took bath in
the Temple Pond and prayed to Lord Shiva for child boon. He was blessed with
children by the grace of Lord Shiva. Hence, the pond came to be called as
Putharangan Kuttai.

Presiding Deity is called as Ezhumesvaramudaiyar.
The mandapam, situated inside the temple follows Vowal Neethi Type. He is
housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Lord is a Swayambhu Moorthy. Mother
is called as Paalinum Nanmozhiyal. She is housed in a separate shrine.
