Sadaiyar Temple, Thiruchennampoondi – History
The Temple was built by Pallava King Thellaru Erintha Nandivarman III (846 869 AD) and was extensively renovated Paranthaka Chola I in the 10th century AD. This Temple served as one of the models for constructing the Thanjavur Big Temple and Gangai Konda Cholapuram Temple in later period. There are 21 inscriptions belonging to Nandhivarman – III Pallava (846 – 869 AD) and Nripatunga Varman Pallava (865 - 906 AD), Aditya Chola – 1 (870 – 907 AD), Paranthaka – I Chola (907 – 950 AD) and Ko Ilango Mutharaiyar. Most of the inscriptions in this temple were dated to Parantaka Chola I.
There is an inscription dated to Nandhivarman – III Pallava talks about gift of gold to this temple for conducting 7 days Masi Maha festival by Nandhivarman wife & Queen Maadevi Adikal Kandan Maran Paavai.  There is an inscription dated to Parantaka Chola I talks about the donations made to this Temple by Parantaka Chola I wife Arulmozhi Nangai, daughter of Pazhuvettaraiyar King. Few inscriptions talks about the Village Court, Arukai merchants, Boat men, Velalar donations in terms of gold for burning perpetual lamp in this Temple. This temple was in a dilapidated condition and was renovated to a certain extent by the state archaeological department.
