Naganatha Swamy Temple, Seshampadi, Thanjavur

Naganatha Swamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Seshampadi village near Kumbakonam Town in Kumbakonam Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Naganatha Swamy and Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari. This Temple is considered as Rahu Ketu Parihara Sthalam and Parihara Sthalam for Pitru Doshas & Naga Doshas. This Temple is sacred for performing Karunya Tharpanam. It is a Tharpanam ceremony performed for the wellbeing of all beings. Those who have consumed meat should perform this Tharpanam to cleanse themselves from the sins of killings the animals.


Legends

Adhi Sesha, chief among the Ashta Nagas, worshipped here to get physical strength. Hence, Adhi Sesha stayed here during his worship, the village came to be called as Seshampadi.

The Temple

This Temple is facing towards east with an entrance arch. Presiding Deity is called as Naganatha Swamy and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Naga Theertham can be found in front of the Temple. There are shrines for Vinayagar and Murugan in the temple premises.

The Temple is located at about 1.5 Kms from Thippirajapuram, 2 Kms from Thippirajapuram Bus Stand, 3.5 Kms from Valangaiman, 3.5 Kms from Valangaiman Bus Stand, 7 Kms from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 8 Kms from Kumbakonam, 42 Kms from Thanjavur and 100 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated on Kumbakonam to Valangaiman Route.
