Marundeeswarar Temple,
Thirukachur – Worship Practices & Festivals
Worship
Practices:
The
temple priests perform the puja (rituals) during festivals and on
a daily basis. The temple rituals are performed three times a
day; Kalasanthi at 8:00 a.m., Uchikalam at
12:00 a.m. and Sayarakshai at 6:00 p.m. Each ritual
comprises four steps: abhisheka (sacred bath), alangaram (decoration),
naivethanam (food offering) and deepa aradanai (waving of lamps) for
Marundeeswarar and Irulneeki Thayar.
Festivals:
The nine days Brahmotsavam is the most prominent festival
celebrated during the day of the Magam in the Tamil month of Masi (Feb-Mar).
The event of Lord Shiva feeding Sundarar is enacted during the Brahmotsavam. Chitra
Pournami (Apr-May), Thiru Karthikai (Nov-Dec), Girivalam (circumambulation of
the hill) on Poornima days & Tuesdays and Padi pooja (pooja on the steps)
on all Mondays are the other festivals celebrated in this
temple. Pradoshams, Amavasai, Kiruthigai, Chathurthi, Mondays and Fridays
are considered special here.
