Mahaveer Jain Temple, Peravur, Villupuram
Peravur is a hamlet, 23 kms from Tindivanam in
Villupuram district. There is a Jain temple of more than 600 years old. Shri
Mahaveerar is main deity of this temple.
Next to the ancient divine sanctum, a marble statue of
Shri Pushpathanthar, alloy made many Thirthankars, 24, 72 cluster of Thirthankars,
Sruthaskandam, Nandeeswara deepa temples model, Yaksha, Yakshis, Shri
Brahmadevar, Shri Dharmadevi statues were arranged on a platform on either side
of Artha mandapam. Then a big pavilion of 16 pillars was built.
Around the centre block, in a corridor, a big gateway
crowned by three stage tower with shikara and five kalashas; Dharmachakra
pillar; an altar; Manasthampam pillar,38 feet height, covered with four Thirthankar
statues around it; a Shri Adhipatarahar (Shri Adinathar) shrine, two stone
foot-steps of Munivars. Shri Viragsagar and Shri Vivarjansagar were fixed. Then
Shri Brahmadevar shrine on a short stem; a square Navagra idols stand, a mandapam
and Shri Kshetrabalagar shrine were well placed.
Daily pooja, Special pooja and Nandeeswara deepa pooja
are going on regularly. On Akshaya thirithiyai day and Yuhathi day a
festival with procession was celebrated every year. Apart from a festival on
the third Friday of Aadi Tamil month another festival is also celebrated.
One more temple named Bhajan koil was built opposite
side of the temple street. Every year 10 days function was conducted on Dasara
holidays. Last day of Dasara a festival was conducted.
