Varaha
Perumal Temple is
a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Kumbakonam
Town in Thanjavur District in Tamil
Nadu. Presiding
Deity is called as Adhi Varaha Perumal / Varaha Perumal and Mother is called as Ambujavalli. The temple is one of 5 Vaishnava Temples connected
with the Mahamaham festival, which takes place in Kumbakonam
every 12 years. The Temple is situated between two rivers, Cauvery and
Arasalaru, in the heart of Kumbakonam. The
Mahasamprokshanam of the temple was held on 26 October 2015.

The
Temple
This is a small Temple. Presiding Deity is called as Adhi
Varaha Perumal / Varaha Perumal. He is gracing the devotees with his consort Bhoomidevi
on his left lap. Mother is facing Perumal in worshipping posture. The
procession deity, also Aadhi Varaha with his left foot on Adisesha is standing before
Lord in a sitting posture. The Varaha Salagrama with symbols of discus and conch
is also before Lord. Milk abishek is performed to Salagrama every day.
Mother is called as Ambujavalli. She is housed in a
separate shrine. There are shrines for Vishwaksena and Acharya Nikamanda Maha
Desika in the temple premises. Nagas is installed under the Tulsi plant in the
prakara. Theertham associated with this Temple is Varaha Theertham. It is
situated outside the Temple.

remains open from 08.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and 05.00 p.m. to 08.00 p.m.
Festivals
10-day
Brahmotsavam in Maasi, Pavitrotsavam in Aavani, 10-day Navaratri Utsavam and
Garuda Sevai are the main festivals celebrated here. Sarangapani
Aravamudhan and Chakrapani
Perumal visit this
temple on the 7th day of Chithirai every year.

Prayers
This temple is considered as Prarthana Sthalam for
unmarried people. People pray for removal of obstacles in marriage
talks and for child boon. Those facing adverse
aspects of serpent planets Rahu and Ketu worship Nagas under Tulsi plant here by
lighting Deepas. Those facing litigations in land property related
matters, pray to Perumal for solution. During the Arthajama Puja (last puja at
night in temples) a nivedhana made of a powder from a root growing under the
grass and mixed with rice flour and sugar is offered to Lord.
These
flour balls are offered as Prasad to devotees the next morning. As Lord rescued
Mother Earth from deep Padala Loka, a nivedhana made of a root growing under
the earth is offered to the Lord. Joint visits to this temple by couples and
performing special archanai here is said to prevent separation and keep the
couples together.
