Pundarikakshan Perumal Temple, Thiruvellarai – Prayers

Pundarikakshan Perumal Temple, Thiruvellarai – Prayers
Devotees pray for child boon. Devotees perform Bali Peeta Tirumanjanam and offer pudding-Pongal Nivedhana to Lord. Prayer begins at the Bali Peeta in the temple. It is a tradition that the childless couples bathe in the Theerthams here on Sunday in the month of karthigai and consume the Nivedhana offered to Perumal. This prayer, according to belief, ensures child boon without fail.
It is believed that one’s wishes submitted to the Perumal at the Balipeedam with the turmeric Kappu to the Balipeedam are automatically taken care by him. Vaishnavites believe that salvation can be achieved only after visiting Thiruvellarai. There is a tradition in the temple which is called ‘Thiruvellarai Kandeero – Thiruvellarai Kanden Ayya’ that says that the devotee informs the Lord that he/she has come to Thiruvellarai and that they are now ready to attain salvation.
After this prayer, the devotees wash the Balipeedam and offer Pongal (rice and lentil mash) to the Lord. To have a wish fulfilled one must take a vow to perform ‘Thirumanjanam’ for the altar. When the wish is fulfilled, the Thirumanjanam at the altar should be done followed by offering of Pongal (a type of food offering) to the altar and Perumal and conclude the worship.
