Ramakrishna Math is located in picturesque Nilgiris Hills in
Ooty Town in Ooty Taluk of Nilgiris District of Tamilnadu. It is one of the oldest
centers in South India. It became part of the Ramakrishna Math in 1926, though
started in 1924. It was meant to be a Retreat center and had an invaluable
library. Swami Shivanandaji Maharaj visited this place and dedicated the temple
in the year 1926.
This mutt is situated at a prime
location and with an amazing view point. It comprises of meditation hall and a
book store within the office premises. The meditation hall has a nice life size
statue of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. The walls inside and outside have some rare
pictures of Swami Vivekananda's and some other sages. The book store doesn't
have a lot, but an interesting, well selected collection and at reasonable
prices.
Ramakrishna Math is
located at about 2 Kms from Ooty Bus Stand, 3 Kms from Ooty, 2 Kms from Ooty
Railway Station, 19 Kms from Coonoor, 31 Kms from Kotagiri, 50 Kms from Mettupalayam
Railway Station and 88 Kms from Coimbatore Airport. Private Taxis are available
from Ooty, Kotagiri and Coonoor to reach this place.
