Madras Kali Bari is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Goddess Kali located in the neighborhood of West Mambalam in in Chennai City in Tamilnadu. This temple was constructed by the Bengali population in Chennai city.



History
The Madras Kali Bari, started in 1982, is meant to uphold Bengali tradition in a foreign land, but it goes beyond its primary role. Since its inauguration by Swami Lokeshwaranand Maharaj, President of Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math on 3 Feb 1981.


The Temple
The Temple is constructed on the lines of the Dakshineshwar Kali temple near Kolkata by the Bengali community in the city. The Temple is facing towards west. This Temple resembles the structure of a typical Bengal temple. This white marble temple has Kali as the presiding deity. There is a small meditation hall which is very peaceful. This beautiful and well-maintained temple also has the shrines of Ganesha and Shiva Linga. The bronze idol of Kali is also found in this temple. The marble idols of Ramakrishna Paramahansa and Sarada Devi are found near the entrance of the main shrine.



Festivals
Bengali festivals like Durga Puja and Kali Puja are celebrated with much fanfare here.
