History
It was in the year 1977, Sri Abhinava Vidya Theertha
Mahaswamiji and Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamiji, graced Krupasankari Street
in west Mambalam, Chennai. It was decided to construct a branch Math, at the
premises sanctified by the sacred visit of their Holinesses, comprising temples
for Lord Sri Rathnagarbha Ganapathi, Lord Sri Navaneethakrishna and Goddess Sri
Sharadambal along with a prayer hall. Accordingly, the foundation stone for the
buildings was laid on February 7, 1979.
The construction of the temples progressed rapidly and
during the subsequent Vijaya Yatra of their Holinesses to Chennai in the year
1982, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Mahaswamiji opened the
Math premises on 28th January 1982 amidst thousands of devotees and
dignitaries. Jagadguru Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamiji performed the
consecration of the shrines on the 31st January 1982. 12 years later, His
Holiness Jagadguru Sri Bharati Theertha Mahaswamiji yet again performed Kumbabhishekam
at the shrines during his Vijaya Yatra to Chennai in the year 1995.
