Nithyakalyana Perumal Temple, Thiruvidandai – Prayers
The
Thiruvidanthai Nithya Kalyana Perumal Temple attracts many pilgrims who come
here to get the blessings of Lord Nithyakalyana Perumal. Those who want to get
married offer two garlands to the Lord. After the special puja is performed,
the priest will give one of the garlands to the devotee. The devotee will wear
that garland and do pradakshinam (circumambulation) nine times around the
temple. Later they take the Garland home. This ritual is practiced to finalize
suitable alliances of marriage.
After
Marriage as a thanksgiving gesture, the couple revisits the Temple and offer
flower garlands to the Lord. They carefully bring the old garland from Home and
offer them to the Sthala Vriksham-Punnai Maram in the backside of the Temple.
Women facing delays in their wedding come to pray to Goddess Akhilavalli in
this temple. People suffering from Dhrushti Dosha (envious eye) and affected by
adverse aspects of the serpent planets Rahu and Kethu visit this kshetra (holy
destination) searching for remedies.
Holy dips
in the sacred temple tank Varaha Theertham in Maasi (February-March); in the
Kalyana Theertham in Chithirai (April-May); and in the Ranganathar Theertham in
Margazhi (December–January) are supposed to fulfill all the devotees’ wishes
and they can gain ultimate redemption. The Temple authorities also perform marriage
ceremony for the Nithya Kalyana Utsava Murthy on request on weekdays. They also
perform Homam on request.
