Somanathaswami Temple is a Hindu temple in the village of Needur in the Nagapattinam district of TamilnaduIndia. The temple is dedicated to Shiva. Needur is located at a distance of 5 kilometres from Mayiladuthurai. The historical name of the place is Sapthapuri. The presiding deity is Shiva. He is called as Somanathaswami. His consort is known as Veyurutholi Ammai.


It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanars Sundarar and Tirunavukkarasar. This is the 75th Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 21st sthalam on north side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu.
