Karuvur Mariyamman Temple, Karur
Shree Karuvur Mariyamman temple is one of the most
important temples in Karur. This temple is situated towards the centre of
Karur. This temple is the 2nd largest Amman temple in Tamil Nadu.
The most auspicious occasion at Shree Karuvur Mariyamman
temple is the annual festival which is held during the month of May. In this
festival ‘Kumbam’ is brought out of the Amman temple is carried to River
Arkavathi which is accompanied by a huge procession.
This Kumbam is then lowered to the river bed with due
respect. This festival is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety regardless of
religion and caste at Karur. The temple is situated in the heart of Karur town
and could be conveniently reached.
Temple's Speciality
Mother Mariamman, with her four hands facing east
looking slightly on the north eastern direction in a sitting form graces
devotees. People pray to the post in the temple with abishek and archanas with
flower and offering curd rice as nivedhanas which is very devotionally followed
in the temple.

Vaikasi (May-June) festival celebrated in all grandeur. Aadi Friday in
July-August, Navarathri in September-October, Deepavali in October-November,
Karthikai in November-December, Pongal falling almost on January 14, Friday in
Thai month (January-February), annual consecration ceremony, Panguni Uthiram in
March-April are other festivals celebrated in the temple.
