Vangal Vangalamman Temple, Karur
Vangal Shree Vangalamman Temple is situated in Vangal village in Karur district on the banks of Cauvery River (2 km width known as Aganda Cauvery). The distance between Vangal to Karur is 12 km. Arulmigu Puthu Vangal Amman temple is a holy place for Kongu vellalar community. The people belonging to Varagunna Perungudi Kootam worship this Goddess as their Mother Goddess.


History
Vangal Amman Temple was established about 130 years ago. This temple was later rebuilt as Vangal Amman Temple naming deity Mother Goddess as Arulmigu Pudhuvangal Amman.
In 1979, Puthu Vangal Amman Temple was regenerated and Mahakumbahbishekam had been performed in grand manner. This was first Kumbabishekam in Kongu Kudipattukara temples or Kulathaiva temple is a great pleasure.


The temple was without Rajagopuram and the basement was without good strength and the Maha mandapam were without maintenance. All these were considered and calculated to repair and reincarnate the temple with stone carving and with a large estimated cost ‘Palayam’.



There are about 6000 families of people belonging to our clan, PudhuVangal.
Poojas
The Poojas at temple:
·        Amavasai Pooja Abishekam starts at 6 pm and followed by Annadhanam.
·        Pournami Pooja starts at 5 pm and Deepaaradhanai at 7 pm and followed by Prasadham distribution.
·        Sankadahari Chadhurthi Pooja Ganapathi homam starts at 4:30 pm.
·        On Diwali Pooja, Annadhanam is offered by kudipattukararkal.
·        On Tuesdays and Fridays, Gomatha pooja starts at 11:30 am.
·        Apart from this trikala pooja happens every day.
Location
Vangal is situated in Karur District on the banks of Cauvery River (2 kilometer width known as Aganda Cauvery). The village is situated about 7 miles from Karur Town (H.Q. of Karur Dt.). It is a very beautiful village with Paddy and Banana Plantations. There are two canals which crisscross the village. The land is very fertile and with the broad river by the side and greenery on all sides, it is one of the richest places in the district. Karur is well connected by road, rail and by air. It is situated on the Trichy - Erode Broad-gauge line and has direct train connections from Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Bangalore etc.

Trichy Airport is about 80 kilometers from Vangal. Also Coimbatore airport is having direct Road link to Vangal (150K.M). Vangal is situated near Nerur (6K.M) where the Jeeva Samadhi of Sadashiva Brahmendral is located. Karur (Dist.H.Q) is a very important Export centre in Tamilnadu (Export of fabrics, Bed sheets, Screen cloth etc).
There are good lodging facilities available in Karur. The temple of Kalyana Venkataramanaswami at Thanthondri Malai (3K.M from Karur town) is the family deity for most of the family hailing from Vangal and surrounding villages. There is Pasupathinath temple in Karur which is more than 1000 years old.
