Moolanatha Swamy Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located in Sambavarvadakarai, a Panchayat town  in Thirunelveli in the Indian state of Tamilnadu. Sambavar Vadakarai was part of Kingdom of Travancore before 1956. The name of this place refers to the caste named Sambavar who were the ancient priests of lord Shiva. This Village surrounded by good scenic beauties. The Shiva temple was built by Pandyan kings. The main deity's name of this temple is Moolanatha Swamy and Maduravani Ambal.

The temple is located on the banks of Hanuman Nadhi, a tributary to the famous Tambraparani River. Sambavarvadakarai is located at about 60 Kms from Thirunelveli, 43 Kms from Ambasamudram, 13 Kms from Tenkasi, 7 Kms from Ayikudi, 170 Kms from Madurai and 120 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram. Nearest Railway Station is located at Tenkasi. Nearest Airport is located at Madurai and Thiruvananthapuram.
