Agastheeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Karuvalarcheri village near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Agastheeswarar and Mother is called as Karu Valartha Nayagi / Akhilandeshwari. This Temple is a powerful Prarthana Sthalam for child birth.




Legends
It is believed that Sage Agasthya got married in this place. Both Agasthya and his wife Lopamudra worshipped Lord Shiva here. In remembrance, Sage Agasthya can be seen along with wife Lopamudra in a shrine in the prakaram. It is also said that Lord Shiva had shown his marriage vision to the sage in this place. Hence, Lord came to be called as Agastheeswarar.

This Temple is a powerful Prarthana Sthalam for child birth. Mother Akhilandeshwari is known as Karu Valarkkum Nayagi (the Goddess who blesses the growth of fetus). This temple complements the famous temple of Garbha Rakshambika / Karu Kaakkum Nayaki (the Goddess who protects the fetus) at Thirukkarugavur. It is customary to visit both the temples of Thirukkarugavur and Karuvalarcheri together on a single day for the couples longing for child. Couples perform poojas to Mother here for child birth.

The Temple is located at about 2 Kms from Marudhanallur, 3 Kms from Enanallur, 4 Kms from Nachiyar Kovil, 6 Kms from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 7 Kms from Kumbakonam Bus Stand, 8 Kms from Kumbakonam, 43 Kms from Thanjavur and 101 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated on Kumbakonam to Needamangalam Route. Take a left turn at Marudhanallur and travel for about 2 Kms on Nachiyar Kovil Route to reach this Temple.
