Viswanathar Temple, Thiruvidaimarudur, Thanjavur
Kasi Viswanathar Temple is a
Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thiruvidaimarudur Town in
Thiruvidaimarudur Taluk in Thanjavur District in Tamil
Nadu. Thiruvidaimarudur is considered as equivalent to Kasi. This
Temple is considered as one of temples of Pancha
Linga Sthalams of Thiruvidaimarudur. The Temple is situated in the east
street of Thiruvidaimarudur
Mahalingeswarar Temple. The Temple can be reached by taking the small road
on the southern corner of the east street towards eastern direction. The Temple
is under the control Thiruvaduthurai Aadheenam.
The
Temple
This is a small west facing temple.
The Temple covers an area of about 20 cents. Presiding Deity is called as Kasi
Viswanathar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. A Mandapam can
be found in front of the sanctum. Nandi can be found in the prakaram facing the
sanctum. Dakshinamoorthy and Durga are the Koshta idols located around the
sanctum walls. Chandikeswarar can be found in his usual location.
Mother is called as Visalakshi.
She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. There is a shrine for
Vinayagar in south western corner of the temple premises. There is an
inscription in upside down on the wall of entrance.
