History
The temple was washed away by severe floods in the river Kudaganaaru during 1977 sparing the main deity and its garbha griha. It was rebuilt in the year 1982. However, this temple is still 10-12 feet below the road level, which shows the possible impact of the damages done during the flood. The image of the goddess was cut into two halves during floods. In 1985 Thiru Muruga Kripanandavariar renovated the goddess sannidhi and built the Rajagopuram. In 2003, the construction of prakaram, compound wall and roof over the maha mandapam, besides renovation of the Bhairavar sannidhi were all carried out by Alagappa Mudaliyar and Arul Neri Thirukootam of Erode.
