Aadhipadheswarar Temple, Kanchipuram

Aadhipadheswarar Temple, Kanchipuram
Aadhipadheswarar Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located at Kanchipuram Town in Kanchipuram District of Tamilnadu. Presiding deity is called as Aadhipadheswarar. The Aadhipadheswarar temple is located near a place called keerai mandapam in Kancheepuram. When Brahma was performing yaga, Saraswathi took the form of a river, Vegavathi, and flood towards the yaga at midnight. Vishnu wanted to save Brahma but he could not see the river in the dark. So he created a linga and worshipped Shiva and sought his help. The linga itself turned into a lamp which emitted very powerful light. With the help of this light Vishnu could stop the river and save the yaga. Vishnu stayed there as the Devas had wished and was called Deepaprakasar.
