Sundareswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Koranattu Karuppur Village in Kumbakonam Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Sundareswarar and Mother is called as Abhirami Ammai. Though the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is famous for Goddess Kali Amman. Hence the Temple is also called as Petti Kali Amman Temple. This place was called as Patalavanam in the ancient past. The Temple is considered as one of the Pancha Krosha Sthalas on the banks of the river Cauvery. The Temple is also considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam. The Temple is under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable department of Tamil Nadu.

Brahma worshipped Lord Shiva here:
Brahma, installed a Shivalinga in a dense forest (Vana) containing Pathiri trees (hence the name Padala Vanam) and worshipped the Lord daily. He was blessed with Jnana Upadesam (initiation into the mysteries of Wisdom) by the Lord.

Indra came with his Iravadha (white color elephant) and worshipped the Deity. He got deliverance from curse on a Full Moon Day of Chithirai (Tamil calendar month).

History
The temple was built by the Cholas. The renovation work was done by Kulothunga III (1186 AD-1216 AD).

Four Kala poojas are being performed daily as per Agamic (Uttara Kamika) tradition.
Festivals
Chithirai Brahmotsavam, Adi Pooram, Vinayaga Chathurthi during Avani, Navarathri during Puratasi, Skandasashti during Aipasi, Thirukarthigai during Karthigai are the festivals celebrated here. On Full-moon day, New-moon day, Ashtami, and Navami special poojas are being performed to Petti Kali Amman. People worship her by offering Pallayam (offering large quantity of boiled rice with curd, sugar etc.).
Singers
Nayanmar Sundarar had made a passing reference to the Lord of this Temple in one of his Devaram Hymns. Hence this Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam.
