Lakshmi Visa Ganapathy Temple is a Hindu Temple
dedicated to Lord Vinayaga located at Nanganallur,
a well-known locality in Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. This temple is
famous for its devotees — visa applicants who come from all across Tamil Nadu. Though
it is 29 years old, the deity has been answering visa prayers only for the last
nine years. It is believed that if one worships this Ganesha, he will fulfil
the devotee’s desire to get a visa to work or study abroad. People, especially
the younger generation coming from even far areas, strongly trust that this
Ganapathi is kind enough to clear the visa procedures with ease.
History
Mr. Jagannathan, an early settler in Nanganallur,
constructed a small temple outside his house a few years ago and his father got
the idol of Lord Ganesha from Mahabalipuram. The temple was constructed in
1988, it was called as Lakshmi Ganapathy temple. Jagannathan’s neighbours
regularly worshipped the deity. Few locals, who were preparing for studying and
seeking employment abroad, placed their visa-related documents in front of the
deity and prayed and got their visa got cleared. Since then, the temple has
been named ‘Visa Ganapathi’. People from all over South India have found
their way to the temple, and the print media has been instrumental in spreading
word about it.
Festivals
Monthly Sangada Hara Chathurthi and Vinayaka Chaturthi
are the festivals celebrated here with much fanfare.
