Mahalakshmeeswarar Temple, Thirunindriyur, Nagapattinam
Mahalakshmeeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located in the village of Tirunindriyur in the Nagapattinam district of Tamilnadu. This Temple is located in the village of Tirunindriyur, 7 kilometres from Mayiladuthurai en route to Sirkazhi. The temple is 1000–2000 years old and dedicated to Shiva. This is the 19th Paadal Petra sthalam on the northern side of river Cauvery. Saints Sambandar, Appar and Sundarar have sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

The Temple
Lord Shiva in the temple is a swayambumurthy. The temple has a 3 tier Rajagopuram with a height of 45 feet. Lord Vinayaka in the temple is praised as Selva Ganapathy gracing in the prakara. Pujas are performed to him on Anusha star day. Those facing debt burdens pray to Vinayaka for relief. Muyalagan the symbol of ignorance under the feet of Lord Dakshinamurthy is on the left side with a serpent in his hand. There is shrine for Lord Muruga gracing with his consorts Valli and Deivanai on his peacock vehicle.



Sun and Moon are facing each other in the temple. People pray here on the new moon day for salvation of ancestors. The axe scar on the Shivalinga is visible even now. The Parasurama Linga worshipped by Sage Parasurama is in the prakara. The Jamadakneeswara Linga is small in size and the Parikeswara Linga is big in size with Lord Mahavishnu by the side. There are three tanks around the temple as a garland praised as Neela Malar Poigai by Saint Sambandar.  


Those praying here will have a peaceful life free of ailments, fear and sins, it is believed. Devotees perform abishek to Lord Shiva with Madhulai fruit pearls. This temple is one among the temples dedicated for each of the 27 Nakshatras or Birth-stars. This temple is dedicated to Anusham. People born under this star greatly benefit by worshiping here at least once every year.


The moat lends the name Parikeswarar. (Parikeswara theertham). The theertham has been described as one with fragrant blue flowers by Sambandar. There are shrines to the Shivalingam worshipped by Parasurama as well as shrines to Ganesha, Subramanya, Mahalakshmi, the Navagrahas, Bhairava, Chandra. Parasuramar is believed to have endowed 36 measures (Veli) of land to this temple with the idea that the income generated from each measure would be used for a day’s worship here. In the present day, the Darumapuram Adhinam which is administering the temple has set up a similar trust to provide for daily worship services.

The temple is open from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Festivals
Aani Thirumanjanam in June-July; Shivrathri in February-March and Tirukarthikai in November-December are the festivals celebrated in the temple.
Singers
The temple is praised by Saints Sambandar, Appar and Sundarar in their Thevaram hymns.  This is the 19th Lord Shiva temple on the northern bank of Cauvery praised in Thevaram hymns.
Prayers
Those facing adverse planetary aspects pray here with Parihara pujas. Devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother offering vastras. Anusham Natchathiram born people can offer prayers here to solve problems in their horoscope. The nakshatra born people can also offer prayers here for peace, prosperity, wealth and good education.
